At K-Electric we understand the basic concept behind how door alarms work, which either an open or closed electrical circuit. In some cases, the circuit is closed when the door is closed. This allows electricity to flow back & forth between the two contact points. When the door is opened, the circuit is broken & the alarm sounds. In other cases, the opening of the door actually closes the circuit, sounding an alarm.

Door alarms can work as simple security devices by themselves if they have a speaker built right into the mechanism. More commonly, however, a door alarm will be a component of a more robust safety and security system. When the circuit is tripped, a signal is sent back to the control pad. This causes the system to sound an alarm and to automatically call the monitoring station.
